Easy Hot Chocolate

This quick homemade hot chocolate recipe is your go-to for cold winter days. Made with milk warmed in the microwave, a hint of almond extract, and a few other simple ingredients. Using a smaller amount of sugar keeps it from being too sweet - and lets all the fun, sugary toppings do the talking!

Ingredients
  

  • 8 oz milk 1% or what you have on hand
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • pinch sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp almond extract

Toppings

  • mini marshmallows
  • mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • sprinkles
  • whipped cream
  • caramel

Instructions
 

  • Warm milk in microwave to desired temperature
  • In a separate bowl, stir together cocoa powder, sugar, and salt
  • Add dry ingredient mix to milk
  • Add vanilla and almond extracts to milk
  • Whisk together until all dry ingredients dissolve
  • Pour into your favorite mug, add toppings of choice, and enjoy!
