Need ideas for how to make a Mother’s Day breakfast in bed tray? You’re in the right place!
Arranging a breakfast tray is harder than it may seem. There’s a lot to fit into a small space! And, since it’s for Mother’s Day, you want it to feel extra special and a little sentimental.
I had so much fun thinking about how to set up a breakfast tray – and then shopping for it. (You really don’t have to ask me twice to go shopping!)
As a starting point, I thought back to the times I’ve had hotel room service and used the basics from those experiences. I’ll show you everything I bought and how I arranged it – so you can recreate it for a special person in your life!

This post is all about how to arrange a Mother’s Day breakfast in bed tray.
Tray
The first thing you will need for breakfast in bed is a tray. This is the exact tray I used in this post. It is reasonably sized, and the glossy finish makes it really easy to clean. It’s a recent purchase, and so far I am a fan! (update: One year later, I still love this tray. It’s probably my most used because of the versatility.)
Menu
Keep your breakfast tray menu super simple. I found everything on this tray pre-made at my local boutique grocery store. My goal was to find breakfast items that are elevated but easy-to-serve. Here’s what I ended up with:
- Mini quiche
- Cranberry muffin
- Grapefruit half (sprinkled with sugar, of course!)
- Coffee
- Orange juice
Dishes
Next, you’ll need to decide what to serve everything on. I debated getting new decorative plates for this photoshoot. Ultimately, I decided against it because I thought it would be better to show something simple you may already have in your own home. The white dishes I used are part of my everyday set from Crate & Barrel – salad plate and square plate.
The glassware, well, that’s a different story! I purchased this new mug and saucer set. Take note of the sentiment written on the inside. Cute, right!? The material is stoneware, and it comes nicely packaged. It would make a perfect Mother’s Day gift as well. (update: Sadly, this mom mug is sold out, but I think this one is just as cute and wouldn’t mind owning it myself one bit!)
The orange juice is served in a champagne flute. This pretty wavy glass crystal design from Mikasa is unfortunately no longer sold. However, they can be tracked down on replacement sites like this one. (And by the way, if you add a little champagne and turn this orange juice into a “mom-osa”, I won’t tell a soul!).
Lastly, the cutlery is rolled in a linen napkin (similar). With so many dishes on the tray, keeping the utensils all together in one neat roll seemed like the best option.
Mother’s Day Floral Arrangement
Next, a floral arrangement on a Mother’s Day breakfast tray is a must! You can clip flowers from your garden or pick up a sweet little pre-filled vase like this one, for instance.
Sentimental Mother’s Day Ideas
Finally, the most important thing you can serve mom on Mother’s Day? Sentimental touches that can easily be incorporated on the breakfast tray – or delivered along with the tray.
- Add a thoughtfully written note to the floral arrangement either on a pick or attached to a ribbon tied around the vase
- Ask the kids to draw pictures that can be used as a placemat on the tray
- Add a paper wrap to the rolled cutlery that includes a sentimental quote
- Deliver the tray with a coffee table book on a topic near and dear to her heart – with the promise of some quiet time to enjoy it. (If you need a book idea, I highly recommend Live Beautiful by Athena Calderone.)
And that’s it! A sweet and simple Mother’s Day breakfast in bed tray.
