Combining two of my favorite things: napkins + Christmas. Writing this post feels like Christmas morning! In this post, I’ll teach you how to fold Christmas napkins in a knot. PLUS, a roundup of my favorite holiday napkin picks (cloth and paper) in 2021.
Eleven months out of the year, it’s neutrals all day every day. But in December, I’m mad for plaid.
Whose with me on this!?
I seriously cannot resist a good tartan. Over the years, I’ve amassed quite the collection of Christmas plaid shirts, scarves, pants, shoes (yes, shoes), and, of course, napkins.
Today, I want to show you how to fold your plaid Christmas (or any seasonal) napkins in a knot. It’s such an easy napkin fold that looks way more complicated than it is. Perfect for Christmas dinner, Christmas brunch, or any holiday celebration or gathering.

How to Tie a Christmas Napkin in a Knot
The knot napkin fold is one of the easiest. Bonus – it is also packs a ton of visual impact.
At Christmas, it looks especially amazing with a plaid napkin, like in this example!
Here are the steps for this napkin fold that works for Christmas – and any time of the year.
- Choose a napkin that does not have a wrong side. This is key because you’ll end up seeing both sides of the napkin in the finished product.
- Fold the napkin in half, corner to corner, to create a triangle.
- Fold the triangle in half so the point is covered.
- Gently gather the napkin in the center, keeping the point tucked underneath.
- Holding at the center, wrap around your hand and tuck one end through.
- Carefully pull the wrapped portion off your hand.
- Slip the knot to the location you’d like it to be by loosening and tightening the knot as you go.
- Finish by fluffing the knot, making sure all the edges are tucked under.
