I leaned heavily into the vintage trend for my Christmas tree decorations in 2024. Keeping true to my home’s neutral color palette, I sourced mercury glass and flocked ornaments, pre-tied velvet bows, and a strand of LED candle lights that are all beautiful and budget-friendly. Christmas Tree Decorations in 2024
Artificial Tree and Tree Collar
Starting with the tree, I bought a 7.5 ft artificial Norwegian Spruce Tree this year. Usually I’m a real tree girlie, but since I wanted to decorate early this year, I went with faux. Out of the box, this was a great tree. Super easy to assemble and fluff. I like the intentional sparseness of the branches and the color variation in the greenery.
To hide the base, which came with the tree, I used a new woven tree collar. It was a little tough to connect the hooks to close the collar, but otherwise I really love this piece. It adds a much-needed natural element to the overall aesthetic and looks way more expensive than the price.
Candle Lights
I was so excited to try these LED candle lights and am quite pleased with the finished result. They took more time to add to the tree than a traditional strand of Christmas tree lights because there was thought that had to go into placement. The logic I tried to follow as much as possible was to go in an up-and-down pattern rather than rows. This kept them from being right next to each other.
With the exception of a bare spot at the base of the back that won’t be seen, one strand was enough to cover the whole 7.5 foot tree.
The lights plug in – no need to charge or use batteries. And they come with a remote control that allows you to set a timer and choose from a few different lighting options. I personally like the slo-glo setting.
Bows and Ornaments
On each candle, I attached a bow. These bows come as a set of 36 pre-tied with a twist tie attached, making it so quick and simple to use. Unfortunately, this exact one is sold out but here is a similar option.
One pack of bows was not enough to put one on every candle. Instead of buying another pack, I just tried to choose the least obvious candles to skip. In my opinion, when stepping back it’s hard to tell there are some candles without a bow.
Next, for the ornaments, I found these gorgeous mercury glass globes. I didn’t love the ribbon they came with, so I cut those off and added twine instead.
Additionally, I used dark green flocked ornaments in a pretty fluted shape. They come with nice green velvet ribbon to hang them on the tree with. Plus, these and the mercury glass ornaments have bronze vintage-inspired caps, which really elevate them.
In all, I used one package of bows, two boxes of mercury glass ornaments, and three boxes of flocked ornaments.
Tree Topper
Last but not least, this pretty mirrored star tree topper was such a lucky find. I was getting ready to buy a more expensive similar one when I saw this for under $15.
As a personal preference, in general, I don’t care for how coil that’s meant to attach a topper to a tree looks. Plus, it made this topper too tall for my ceiling height. So, as a temporary solution until I can find the right tool to cut off the coil, I tucked the coil behind the top of the tree and used twist ties to attach it. The little branches at the top cover the fix.
