Spooky Styling Tips

For the sake of our Halloween inspired cheese board, here are my top tricks to getting a spooky effect:

Use a cohesive, seasonal color palette as much as you can. In this case, I used black, shades of red, olive green (literally!), and cream. Color cohesion will give your finished product more polish and pizzazz.
Choose ingredients that could be ghastly in context. For instance, beets on their own are not scary (unless of course you don’t care for beets!) But in the context of a Halloween board, suddenly they look a little like bloody innards (gross – I know!).
Pick one focal point that drives home the theme. Obviously, it’s the stabbed brie on this board. You can get the look by using thick strawberry jam.
Pop in a few tiny winks to the holiday, like candy eyeballs resting on dried prunes and stuffed olives. It’s kind of funny how much personality this touch adds without hardly any effort!
Use serveware that matches the tone. A dark wood board and copper handled cheese knives seemed to fit the overall aesthetic.
