This warm boozy beverage hits different on cold fall and winter evenings. A hot toddy is a yummy blend of spices, lemon, honey, and – of course – bourbon. Actually, you can make a hot toddy with just about any dark liquor you have on hand – but I personally like bourbon. Because I prefer a little less lemon, I tested out the ratios of the ingredients to find a combination that features more honey and spices than lemon. Keep reading for the recipe I used – plus links for this adorable honey pot and aesthetic electric tea kettle that made making this cocktail almost as much fun as drinking it.

This post is all about how to make a hot toddy with bourbon.
Hot Toddy With Bourbon
Ingredients
The ingredients needed to make a hot toddy with bourbon are:
- 1.5 to 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 lemon wheel
- 5 whole cloves
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 6 to 8 oz of hot water
- 1.5 to 2 oz bourbon
Directions
In a mug, stir the honey, lemon juice, and bourbon together. I used these ribbed glass mugs, which do a great job of showing off all of the fun garnishes in this drink. Plus, they are microwave safe (double walled so the outside does not get too hot) – and I found the squared handle easy to hold.
To add the honey, I used a wooden honey dipper and added about 3 drizzles to the mug – which if I had to guess was about 1.5 to 2 tbsp.
Then, pour hot water into the mug. I used this aesthetic electric kettle, which made heating and pouring the water so easy.
Lastly, garnish with a cinnamon stick, star anise, and lemon wheel with cloves. To add the whole cloves to the lemon wheel, I simply pushed one clove into every other section of the lemon.
All that’s left to do is enjoy! Cheers! 🙂
