If you’re like me and you want your home to feel welcoming and put together – but it has to be on a budget – then sometimes a DIY is necessary. This easy Christmas wreath DIY gives modern organic luxury but costs a fraction of the price of expensive high-end wreaths. It took about 45 minutes to make, scissors are the only tool required, and most of the supplies are from Amazon. I hope this gives you the resources and inspiration to make a beautiful wreath for your front door decor that you and your guests will enjoy throughout the holiday season!

Christmas Wreath DIY
Supplies
You only need a few things to make this wreath. The cost of all the supplies really depends on what Amazon sales and coupons there are.
When I purchased, the total was under $75 (for everything except the hanger, which I already had). HOWEVER, I will have plenty left over of the cedar stems, ribbon, and twist ties to also use them for my mantle and railing. So, for this project alone, the only sunk expenses are the bells and wreath, which together were under $50 on the day I bought them.
Fluffing the Wreath
When you look at designer wreaths, you’ll start to notice one thing they have in common is that they are full and fluffy. Usually, this is because more than one type of greenery is used.
To hack that look with our DIY, start by fluffing the wreath. Put on your favorite Christmas movie and take a few minutes to separate all the branches. I try to stay organized working around the wreath in sections but usually end up just being a bit random about it. There’s no right or wrong here – the end goal is for it to look natural and not have any visible gaps to the wreath base.
TIP: When the wreath arrives, it will be packed flat. To make fluffing a little easier, take it out of the packaging and let it sit for a few hours to start expanding on it’s own.
Then, add cedar stems. I did that by sticking the end of the stem through the back of the wreath and then tucking in to secure in place. In all, I used 7 or 8 cedar stems placing them in various locations throughout the wreath.
Attaching the Bells
The bells I bought for this project came with a loop at the end. To attach them to the wreath, I cut the loop and then tied them the base of the wreath. Take a look at the wreath and decide where you want the top to be. Then, pull back the greenery to find a bare spot to tie the bells. I used a square knot (the only fancy knot I know! lol) – right over left, left over right – to secure it in place.
Attaching the Bow
The velvet ribbon I used is 2″ wide and does not have a wire. Because the velvet texture is only on one side, you’ll want to tie it in a way that keeps that side facing forward.
Describing how to tie this velvet ribbon bow in words seems impossible! It’s not hard to tie the bow – but there are a few steps that would be so much easier to watch than to read about. So, I’m going to recommend you head over to my Instagram Reels to see the video demo.
Once the bow is ready, take one twist tie and stick it through the back of the bow. Then, use the twist tie to secure the bow to the very top of the bells. Then, re-fluff the wreath greenery as needed to cover where the bells are tied on.
Now all that’s left to do is to hang your new pretty wreath on your front door!
I have had this wreath hanger for several years, and it has held up great to the elements on our front door. We do have a covered porch, but for the price I’m super impressed with how good it still looks. If you’re on the market for a wreath hanger, I highly recommend this simple metal one.
