Recently, I bought the ingredients to make a hugo spritz cocktail – a combination of an elderflower liqueur, prosecco, seltzer water, mint, and lime. To cut down on the time it would take to serve a glass at a party, I decided to try making lime and mint ice cubes – and I must say, the result was refreshing and delicious. So, today I’m sharing how I made this modified recipe, which you can easily use as a signature drink for get-togethers throughout the year!

This post is all about making a cocktail hugo spritz.
Lime & Mint Ice Cubes
First, to make the lime and mint ice cubes, I gathered these ingredients and supplies:
- Lime juice
- Fresh mint
- Liquid measuring cup
- Ice mold
- Cocktail shaker
- Muddler
To fill the ice cube tray, I used a 2 to 1 ratio for lime juice to water. For example, 1 cup of lime juice to 1/2 cup of water. Then, for the mint, I used 2 leaves per ice cube.
Starting with the mint, I put washed leaves in the cocktail shaker and muddled. Then, I poured the lime juice and water into the shaker.
After shaking the mixture, I put it back into the liquid measuring cup (to make pouring into the ice cube tray easier). Lastly, the mixture was poured into the ice mold, making sure to evenly distribute the mint in each.
The ice mold was placed in the freezer overnight. The next day, I popped a few lime and mint cubes into a glass of water to test it – and they were quite good if I don’t say so myself! So, not just for cocktails, these ice cubes also make crisp and flavorful ice water!
Hugo Spritz Cocktail
To make a hugo spritz, you need a few key ingredients.
- St-Germain (elderflower liqueur)
- Prosecco (brut/dry)
- Club soda
- Lime (for garnish)
- Mint (for garnish)
I found a bottle of St-Germain at Target – but you might also be able to find it at your grocery. Bonus: The packaging is really pretty. Since a little goes a long way, you can enjoy looking at the bottle on your bar between uses. 🙂
The way I made a hugo spritz with the pre-made lime and mint ice cubes was to add two ice cubes to a wine glass.
Then, I poured over 1 oz of St-Germain, 4 oz of chilled Prosecco, and topped with club soda.
To finish the beverage, each glass was garnished with a lime wheel and a sprig of mint.
And that’s it! So simple and easy to do. You could even set this up as a hugo spritz signature drink bar, and let your guests make their own (kind of like a mimosa bar).
