My family and I had so much fun celebrating my nephew’s second bday with this two fast birthday party theme. Using a muted palette and vintage race car graphics, I love how just a few stand-out decorations around and on the cake table easily created a party focal point. We also carried the theme to the food buffet renaming dishes to coordinate (i.e. pitstop pasta) – keep scrolling to get the full menu and name ideas. I hope this post gives you lots 2nd birthday ideas for a special kid turning two in your life!

Two Fast Birthday
Two Fast Birthday Party Decorations
The party decorations started with a balloon arch. Anchoring it to our mantle, I opted for a wavy and asymmetrical look. This kit came with plenty of balloons in a variety of sizes, including the 2 and checkerboards. We used an electric balloon pump to fill them (a must for a diy balloon garland), and then grouped by color to create a color-blocked effect.
Next, the cake table was placed in front of the balloon garland. I covered it with a banquet-size tablecloth, which I prefer to use because it covers the folding table legs.
On the front of the table, I hung a Two Fast banner (which is available as a printable template in my Etsy shop along with the matching invitation). To assemble the banner, I cut out each letter, hole punched in the top two corners, and then used twine to connect the letters.
Lastly, on top of the table, we placed the cake, cake plates/forks, and gifts. More on the two fast cake topper in a minute. But first, let’s have a moment for the gift ribbon, shall we!? I love that the pattern looks like a road – and very similar to the 2 balloon. Such a fun little detail.
Two Fast Birthday Food
Next, let’s talk about the fueling station – or the food buffet. As a family, we brainstormed some cute names related to a race car theme for food we were planning to serve anyway. Below is everything we had at this party along with the coordinating name. (Food tents available in my Etsy shop.)
Pitstop Pasta: rigatoni noodles, white sauce, chicken, and squash
Stoplight Salad: Ceasar (kit from Costco)
Break Pad Bread: sliced french bread toasted with butter & garlic powder
Nuts and Bolts: snack mix
Petrol Pretzels: pretzel nuggets with cheese
Spare Tires: mini chocolate donuts
First Place Cake: round vanilla cake with buttercream icing
Two Fast Birthday Cake
Opting for a vanilla cake with buttercream icing (found at our local grocery store), I found the cutest wooden two fast cake topper on Amazon. The blue vintage car is darling, and it is a good size filling up most of the top. Highly recommend.
Then, for a second sweet treat, we had “spare tire” mini chocolate donuts, which were a hit. I displayed them in a marble cracker tray and liked how they looked sort of stacked up like real tires might be.
The cake stand and square plates are both go-to serving dishes that I’ve used countless times over the years. When you invest in neutral basics, you can mix and match them so many ways for different events and holidays.
Lastly, for a candle, we used a 2 sparkler. We lit it from the bottom, and it lasted about 1-1/2 rounds of the Happy Birthday song. lol
