First communion receptions are such a special day for your family. If you’re reading this, you’re probably looking for first communion party supplies that will make the day extra perfect. As a mom of 3 daughters who has planned her fair share of sacrament parties, I’ve been where you are. I remember feeling like it was a prelude to my daughters’ wedding, with everyone who loves her gathering to celebrate this next step on her spiritual journey. I wanted ever detail to be just right.
As virtuous as that may seem, it is also a lot of pressure on us as moms and hostesses! That pressure can easily lead to stress and then the whole thing not being enjoyable at all. After all, it’s not like we don’t have 10,000 other things going on in our lives at the same time, right!?
Let me help you take some of that pressure off by giving you a road map for your first communion party decor. By having a vision for the party aesthetic and a list of what you need to buy, you will have clarity and a plan. This in turn will help you feel confident that you’re putting together a celebration you’ll be proud of – and that your family will cherish forever!

First Communion Party Aesthetic
Although I have planned sacrament parties for girls, I think there is a no-fail color palette that would work for anyone’s taste.
Enter cream, beige, and gold.
Classic color combinations like this one will make party planning so much easier because you’ll be able to easily mix and match supplies from various sources. Buying party supplies from a variety of companies rather than one set from the same company is something I almost always recommend because it will give your finished product a much higher end look.

Backdrop
If you’ve hung around here for any length of time, you’ll know I recommend creating one wow moment instead of a bunch of little moments. First communion receptions are no exception!
One easy and trendy way to create a backdrop is by purchasing a sage leaf installation. Don’t let that description scare you! It’s actually pretty simple. All you need to do is cut lengths of leaf ribbon and attach them to something, such as a dowel rod that is securely hung from the ceiling.
Since first communions are typically after Easter in the spring, a greenery backdrop is a perfect choice for the occasion. Framed with a neutral tone balloon garland, you will quickly and easily have a show stopping focal point!
Centerpieces
Fresh or dried, baby’s breath is a great choice for first communion party centerpieces because of their simplicity. What makes them a top choice is that they can stand alone in a vase. No need to make a complicated arrangement with a bunch of different flowers! Hint: Use taper shaped vases to reduce the number of stems you need.
Plates, Napkins, Cutlery
When I recently hosted a baby shower I used these exact plates and cutlery set which would also fit right in with the rest of our first communion party supplies. They look quite realistic and have a gorgeous, modern aesthetic! For napkins, I
Cake Topper
Cake toppers are a nice alternative to having something written in icing on your first communion cake. I purchased a cake topper from this Etsy shop for my daughter’s 8th grade graduation party (see it in action in this post), and 100% recommend this shop. Their work is amazing and super reasonably priced for a custom wood piece.
Favors
Next, your first communion party is not complete without favors! Thank your guests for sharing your child’s special day (and for probably sitting through an extra long mass lol) with a parting gift. My favorite things to give for sacrament parties are prayer candles and plants. Not only are they an appreciated favor, but they also can double as party decor when arranged and packaged thoughtfully!
Party Printables
In case you’re on the market for a first communion invitation, here is a bundle collection I have in my party printable Etsy shop. The design features a green leaf motif background, elegant typeface, and gold accents, which would blend in perfectly with the other decor mentioned in this post.
In the bundle, you will receive four editable Canva templates:
- invitation
- welcome poster
- welcome sign
- favor tags
