Decorating a baby shower doesn’t have to automatically mean pinks, blues, and greens. In fact, a neutral baby shower decor can be just as lovely. Layering earth-toned decor with pops of gold and copper metallic will create a serene atmosphere for your guests and the mama-to-be to enjoy.
I recently co-hosted a baby shower brunch in my home and used neutral decorations. In this post, I’ll show you what decorations I found and and how they were combined to create a neutral backdrop for this very special occasion. My hope is that it gives you ideas and inspiration for your own baby shower decor!

Neutral Baby Shower Decor
Backdrop
When it comes to party decor, having one major focal point rather than a bunch of little decor is almost always my recommendation.
You can order an arch backdrop online (Etsy is a fantastic resource), or you can DIY as I did.
No matter what you pick, make it a soft, neutral color. This will give you freedom to add other earthy accents to create a layered look. And neutral can be anything but boring when you layer textures!
One cost-effective and impactful way to add lots of texture is balloon garland. The one I chose for this neutral baby shower is especially great because several of the colors are double stuffed, which gives the balloons a more opaque, rich effect. To somewhat visually balance the space, we used a majority of the balloons on the left and a smaller cluster on the right near the cake table.
In addition to the balloon garland, a few vases of natural dried florals in browns and creams were added around the arch backdrop. The large palms are from Amazon, and I believe the others (besides the pampas grass, which is from a local boutique) are all from AFloral.
Chair for Mama-to-Be
Give your mama-to-be a place to put her feet up. Or, if not that, at least a place to comfortably open all of the adorable baby gifts she’s being showered with!
I used this boho rattan chair from World Market (borrowed from my daughter’s room).
Instead of decorating the chair, I let the stuff around it do the talking – balloon arch, vases of dried florals, and woven cushions.
The chair itself comes with a neutral seat cushion. To that I added two toss pillows (boucle from Target and Ikea slip cover). Additionally, a faux fur blanket was placed on the seat for added dimension.
Finally, a small marble and wood side table next to the chair served as a place for baby shower games and pens. (By the way, these gold pens are everything! Definitely not necessary but a fun extra detail to have pens that coordinate with your event!)
Dessert Table
When you’re setting up any party, don’t forget that you can use furniture pieces you already own creatively. For instance, I used our coffee table to display the desserts at this baby shower. Placed near the chair for the mama-to-be, the cake and cupcakes display became party decor itself.
Keeping true to the neutral theme, the cake was decorated with white icing and shaved white chocolate and placed on a beaded wood cake stand. Then, a personalized light wood arch cake topper gave it the finishing touch. Since the cake topper is custom, it is also a sentimental keepsake to hold onto long after the shower is over. (Hello baby book!)
In addition, basic cupcakes were elevated by placing them in parchment paper wraps in two neutral tones. We left the wrappers they were baked in on the cupcakes and simply dropped them into the second parchment wrap. Super easy upscale hack!
To finish the look, “Oh Baby” cupcake toppers in metallic gold (also a neutral!) were popped on top of each cupcake. Plates and forks were from the same set used on the table decor (more on that in a minute!), and the napkins were a pretty scalloped white with gold “hello sweet baby” message.
Mom-osa Bar
Instead of mimosas, why not serve mom-osas at a baby shower!? My co-host and I set up this baby shower drink station on the dining room buffet. Keeping everything around the juice and champagne labels toned down helped the display stay fairly true to the neutral shower theme.
Juice was served in basic clear carafes. You can find these a lot of different places, but mine are from Target – and under $10, by the way! For garnish, white square bowls held raspberries and blueberries, garnished with mint.
Then, we placed bottles of champagne in a pretty gold beverage tub (also Target!). While this beverage tub is too small for a bunch of bottled and canned drinks at, say, a backyard bbq, it is the perfect size for several bottles of champagne at a baby shower brunch!
Simple stemware was arranged near the champagne. Then, to finish the look, a creamy neutral macrame tapestry was hung above the buffet. (I love when party decor doubles as home decor, and visa versa!)
Table Decor
Key to getting a neutral but interesting tablescape for this baby shower was layering.
Let’s start at the base layer and work our way up to the centerpiece, shall we?
To start, the tablecloth. I searched high and low for large, linen tablecloths. Large because we were using folding tables and I wanted to hide the unsightly metal legs. And linen because the texture is amazing and I just can’t do polyester (call me a snob, but I just can’t). Long story somewhat short, I ended up ordering a linen-like tablecloth from an online banquet supply store. So far, I give them a thumbs up and am happy to have them in my collection for future events!
On top of the tablecloths, I placed a second linen: macrame table runners. Surprisingly affordable, I have used these for several other events, including at my oldest daughter’s 14th birthday.
Place settings are the next neutral layer. You would never guess the white and gold plates and utensils are disposable. No, really! Even in person, they are convincing. Gauze napkins tied in a knot, place cards, and a sprig of dried fern – all in earthy tones – were arranged on top of each plate to created a little vignette.
Lastly, gold and glass candle holders and diy faux-ceramic vases filled with pampas grass were arranged in an alternating pattern down the center of the table. The DIY is super easy, and I plan to do a second post soon showing exactly how I got this look!
Favor Display
As guests departed, we had a small display of mini champagne bottles for them to take. Even the bottle label stayed true to our neutral baby shower theme!
“Pop It When She Pops” tags were attached using a pretty creamy neutral chiffon ribbon and accented with a Kraft paper straw.
