If you’re on the hook to create a trunk or treat display for your car or SUV this Halloween but feel like you’re short on time and ideas, you’ve arrived in the right place. These easy and quick trunk or treat ideas will help you create a crowd-pleasing display. Inspired by my preschool daughter, a pastel, glam Halloween themed trunk-or-treat decor will definitely be a hit among the 5 and under female population!
In this post, I’ll break down the decorations (most from Dollar Tree, Target, and Amazon) and share my best hacks for pulling off an attention-getting theme.
Just be sure you have enough candy because your vehicle will be trending in whatever lot you’re parked in! 🙂

Backdrop Hack
To make your car, van, SUV, or truck trunk not look so much like, well, a vehicle, you need to block the view to the front. Don’t worry. This is simple and very affordable. Just grab a disposable tablecloth and a few packs of creepy cloth from the dollar store or Amazon and attach it to the ceiling so it drapes in front of the last seating row.
Now, how you attach is up to your discretion. Obviously, ceiling material varies. For our SUV, I used thumbtacks. But you may need to choose a different method to avoid permanent damage! Proceed at your own risk!
Large-Scale Balloon Decor
Choosing a large-scale decoration is almost ALWAYS better than a bunch of little ones, no matter what you’re decorating. First, it saves you time (and sometimes money) not having to deal with a tons of stuff. Second, it looks better. Just sayin’ – with all the kindness in my heart. But seriously, filling the space with something that has presence is going work to your advantage in so many ways.
In this case, a pink, black, silver, and marble balloon arch was anchored to the side and top of the hatch framed out the scene. Plus, it filled in so much space that I didn’t have to worry about addressing with anything else.
To complete the balloon installation, a script-y “boo” in silver. In actuality, the letters are part of a “oh boy” set. When I couldn’t find a silver script “boo” balloon anywhere, this is the solution. Worked out pretty well if I don’t say so myself!
Skeleton Dress Up
Using the skeletons that have made appearances in posts throughout the spooky season, they became the personality of the display. Using a few inexpensive boas as their “costumes” instantly transformed them into a “ghouls night out”.
Tinsel & Boas
To keep unsightly car carpet from peeking out too much, I covered with a few elements. First, the creepy cloth stretched and pooled a bit near the edge of the trunk. Then, on top of that, Christmas tinsel (another dollar store find) was wound around for another pop of shine. Finally, the skeletons’ boas plus an extra draped around to finish off the glam look.
Lighting
As a last minute add, my 10 year old let me borrow a set of LED lights from her room. I draped them between the creepy cloth and tablecloth. So glad that inspiration struck because it made such a difference! Even at dusk, they could easily be seen. And on the twinkle setting. Well, let me just tell you. The “client” (aka my preschooler) was quite impressed! Haha
Coordinating Candy
To take this scene up just one more level, I picked up candy with packaging in a girlie color palette. Although it is a small detail, it does add to the overall affect. At least in my book!
