When you’re hosting a spooky soiree, one of the focal points of your party is often your mantel. Get your fireplace ready for prime time by using Halloween mantel decorations that tie in with the rest of your party aesthetic.
Today, I’m sharing with you my mantle decorations, which I kept fairly neutral. They coordinate with the Halloween tablescape I shared last week. Coordinating these two spaces was especially important because my fireplace and dining room are within eyesight of each other.
In this post, I’ll give you details on each aspect of this decor. Plus, at the end of the post, you’ll find links to shop – in case you’d like to check out some of these items more closely!

This post is all about Halloween mantel decorations
Halloween Mantel Decor
Halloween Mantel Scarf
Adding a layer of black gauze (aka creepy cloth) is a perfect neutral foundation for your Halloween mantle decor. It’s really easy to work with to get an organically draped look. For this look, I used two cloths that met in the middle.
Mirror
Arches are a huge design trend. Normally, this black framed arched mirror lives in our powder room, but I moved it to the mantel for Halloween. The black frame and shape seemed to work better than the gold circle mirror we usually have over our fireplace.
Candlesticks
A set of two candlesticks with black taper candles were placed to the left of the mirror. Sadly, these are no longer available (I have have had them for years.) But I’ll link to a similar option in the Shop the Post section at the end of this page.
Bust
While not a Halloween decoration, this bust adds a haunted mansion touch. The top of her head is hallow so you can use it as a vase or bowl. In this case, I used short dried floral stems.
Vase and Dried Floral Arrangement
Speaking of dried florals, you may recognize these if you’ve been following along on my Halloween Home Tour 2021. They are the same stems used on my Halloween tablescape.
However, I used a different black vase for this arrangement because it fit on the mantel better than the other one. I bought this vase at a little boutique on a trip to California this fall. (If you follow me on Instagram stories, you may remember just how darling that shop was!?) However, I did find it online elsewhere in case you have your eye on it.
Marble Box and Books
The vase rests on top of a brown marble box, which is given some height help from a couple of old books. By turning the books so the spine is facing away from view, the neutral-toned pages pop against the black gauze.
Halloween Bat Decor
The star of the show are the flying bats. These are actually vinyl decals. They come with adhesive stickers that allow you to move them around.
Getting them to look random was tricky. After several attempts, I realized to get a more dimensional look, they could not be only ordered large to small. Instead, the needed to be somewhat mixed, with small bats near larger ones.
