Hot days followed by balmy evenings call for refreshing summer cocktails. Enter: the gin and violet cocktail. G&V instead of G&T, anyone?

While I’m never one to turn down a classic G&T, I wanted to create something special for the warm months of the year that would be simple to make in large batches.
Any time I see violet on a menu, I instantly think – luxury. It’s an unexpected flavor with some popularity credit going to the Starbucks violet drink.
This violet cocktail features violet simple syrup, muddled blackberries (hence, smashing), and gin, combined a splash of lime juice for a needed sour note. The end result is a not-too-sweet (at least not to me) refreshing adult beverage that is prefect to serve at chic events such as bridal showers, baby showers, and garden parties.
Thirsty? Let’s learn how to make one of these pretty little things! In this post, I’ll share the recipe for this refreshing summer beverage and also give you shapable links to style a little summer soirée bar situation!

This post is all about how to make a violet cocktail.
How to Make this Delicious Violet Cocktail
You need: violet simple syrup (this one is easily ordered from Amazon and comes in a HUGE bottle), gin (of course!), lime juice, blackberries, mint, and club soda.
The first step is the hardest: Muddle the blackberries. Sounds fancier than it is. I’m not an expert chef, and I can do this. So don’t worry. We will get through it together!
Break down the blackberries until they are almost pulverized. I found this is easiest to do right in the cocktail shaker using a wood muddler.
Once that’s done, simply add the liquid ingredients (minus club soda – we’ll save that for later) to the cocktail shaker. Top with ice and shake until a light foam forms – about 10-15 seconds.
Hint: Choose a neutral flavored gin. There’s already a lot of flavor going on in this cocktail. A gin with a lot of floral notes may lead to an overwhelming result. A good neutral gin option is New Amsterdam.
Pour into coupe glasses using a strainer. You want some of the smashed blueberry to fall into the glass, but not all. (Unless you want it all. In which case, go for it!)
Top with a splash of club soda and garnish of choice. I chose a hint of mint – for an aromatic boost – plus a few additional blackberries speared on a modern cocktail pick.
All that’s left to do is enjoy! Voila violet!
